I enjoyed the review, but I think part of the charm of 1977 is not just the humor but the art style. When I see a 1977 strip it has that feel that a lot of old 70's cartoons have. I think if it was done any other way it wouldn't work, and for me it works really well.

Now, now. Retro 70's was all the rage not too long ago! But after we all got tired of "The 70's Show" and Tarantino moved on to doing a WWII movie, it seems to have petered out. Right now, anything retro-earlier-than-the-80's seems quaint.

As someone who was born in 1977, I can't really relate to much of the humor going on in this comic. But, in the creator's defense... I hear all the time that when creating your webcomic, you need to find your niche audience. Well, I think Byron knows who his niche audience is, and he hasn't deviated.

The only problem is, how many people in the age bracket that this comic is geared towards read webcomics? My dad is in the age bracket, and he can barely send and e-mail, let alone find a webcomic. :) (This is an extreme example, I know, but still true.)

Humor and art are subjective, but if you put your work out there for all to see, you have to take your lumps sometimes.

Overall your review is constructive and honest. The truth is that art and humor is largely subjective - and sometimes that's a harsh reality. Especially for artists who spend a lot of time trying to hone their craft.

It's also a humbling to see that even good webcomics can look flawed to a sharp eye. Fortunately, not all fans of webcomics are as critical.

I'll confess, I'm a fan of the comic and an associate of Byron's. That being said, I reiterate that your review was constructive and honest and I fear the day my own comic has the opportunity to suffer a similar fate.

Haha I was going to say "I don't think comparing this strip to Ctrl Alt Del is a compliment", and then I realized it was a 2 star review. Yeah not... not my age group!

No problem man! I can take a bloody nose now and then.

But, man, the Space Ghost comic you featured just cracks me up, and that's why I do 1977. It makes me laugh. If you laugh too, cool. But, I am trying to be better at my craft and improve the comic writing (well, for me).

Come back by in November or so and see if the new comics hit the mark with you or not. I'd love your reaction on the newer stuff then. :)
