"Second, underwater scenes tend to all look the same. Unless you’re near the sea floor, backgrounds are always a big unchanging wall of blue. And even when you do get a glimpse of the seal floor in all its glorious splendor, everything is still bathed in a murky, depressing blue."

And it's such bullshit, isn't it? Take five seconds to look at some actual under water photos and you'll quickly see that the bottom of the ocean is host to more bizarre creatures and vibrant colours than any where else on the planet, so why does every under water scene fall victim to this?

I'm not in agreement with anyone in particular on this one. Daniel's strip plays to all his strengths in production design and digital painting. It's very effects heavy which takes it away from the 'comix' ground it desperately needs. It needs a more human, oddly a more fluid, natural approach to counter the static designer-y-ness of the look. He gets very close a lot of times but overall it still looks like a series of production sketches for the movie. The story is there underneath it all, but is stunted by the surface gloss and a very slow update schedule. Comics are not juts about quality of production but about speed too. Still, a lot of great potential, but needs to swim with a few more comics to loosen up. I don't think he's really done comix before so as a first attempt it's really pretty strong.

God promised that he'd never destroy the earth by water again, remember? Maybe that's because he knew any watery post-apocolyptic is gonna seem old and boring now.

Yeah, that summed up my response to Azure as well. Wanted to like it based on the art, but it failed to be compelling in all other fields, so...yep. Giant "meh".

I think you pretty much summed up my reaction to Azure as well. I've been puzzled by the some of the EXTREMELY positive reviews, but you seem to have a firm grasp on both the strengths and the weaknesses. Very nicely, respectfully done.
