Mainly because no one representing Chris Crosby’s point of view is calm and reasonable. (The only one who comes close is Sawyer, and he’s generally Republican.) Everyone in Sore Thumbs is wrongheaded.

Why doesn’t this apply to S*** T*****, a major offender that relies entirely on this?

I didn't notice anything about how the characters are drawn. Democrats are supersexy, pinkhaired fiends while Republicans are beady-eyed and tend to literally look like monkeys. Then there is the fact it uses the same 321 facial expressions. THEY HAVE THE SAME FACE. Except for the literal buttmonkey, of course.
