This is pretty informative, however I am always a bit skeptical about reviews that are a few years old. I don't suppose you would ever write about something again that you already went over, but I'm just throwing it out there that this comic has gotten much better since this has been posted.

How Fanboys started out will never change, but what it is today has! Scott DeWitt's art style has improved greatly, and I will give him kudos for continuing the comic after so long. It has become a much more visibly enjoyable comic. Scott DeWitt does not come off as pretentious at all, which I find very charming. It has grown from being just a video game webcomic, and that is what's most important.

I swore away all gamer webcomics after Ctrl+Alt+Del and VG Cats, I said that Penny Arcade was good enough and I couldn't stand another "PA wannabe with prop characters", that I would never read "another joke a day comic where the artist fell in love with their characters and started trying to glue emotions into their two dimensional lives like magazine cutouts to a television screen". I had seen enough, no more.

But now you've shown me someone who is the exact opposite of Tim Buckley in so many ways. Mostly in his acknowledgment of his faults and determination to start anew for the better, rather than acting like a total douche towards all negative criticism and allowing his comic to run into the ground and on again, like a soul trapped forever in hell running downhill after running into a brick wall in life and not noticing the transition.

I might have to add this to my list of gamer webcomics worth the read later. Probably between Awkward Zombie and Nerfnow (my obsession with Team Fortress 2 forces me to ignore its faults, I am ashamed yes).

At the end of the day every webcomic artist needs to accept that copying Penny Arcade will never work, but when they provide something original to the genre of gaming comics they have a chance of doing something good. Though they're best off staying out altogether and trying instead to be the next Rice Boy or something. Gaming comics are a plague.

Well, F@nb0y$ is back, and it's officially "Fanboys" now. L33tsp33k is gone (and soooo early 2000's). Thank God!

DeWitt went and did a huge update on his site, which made all my links obsolete. I fixed this review, and the random clicks seem to be going to right place. If you click on a link and it only pops you to the most recent strip (or to some other weird webpage), drop a note on this message board and I'll fix it.

Mario's in the background of the most recent Awkward Zombie:

<a href="http://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic1-031708.php" rel="nofollow">http://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic1-031708.php</a>

Yeah, she's not the best at doing pudgy characters. My favorite Mario, by the way, is probably the one from Eegra's Hilarity Comics. He's just so happy and borderline psychotic.

<a href="http://www.eegra.com/show/sub/do/browse/cat/comics/id/16" rel="nofollow">http://www.eegra.com/show/sub/do/browse/cat/comics/id/16</A>

I wanted to check out the Mario one in Fanboys (I just remember Tingle being expecially creepy), but DeWitt seems to be in the middle of a site overhaul and I can't read any of the archived strips.

Any skinny nintendo character is done best in Awkward zombie(Pheonix and Edgeworth? And the few Smash characters). Did she ever put Mario in there? Fanboys has the funniest, creepiest Mario's I've seen. I don't know if it's the best, but I certainly haven't seen better.

Anyway, nice to see a reviewer who's open minded and understands a bit more about the differences between demographics, and reviews things objectively(to the the extent anyone reviewing entertainment can). This is sorta the first article on the site I've read, but I'm definitely sticking around after this! Keep em' coming!

Hey, just commenting to say that I just found your blog & it's awesome; best webcomic blog I've found in a while. Keep up the good work!

On the topic of Fanboys, yes, I quite like that there are gamer comics like this out there that aren't opaque to the non-gamer like myself.

Reynard, you are in luck, because Link is probably the second most parodied video game character by webcomics in a survey I just completely made up. :) Fanboys does a good job with "The Legend of Zelda" characters (especially the really creepy renditions of Tingle), but for my money the best Link comes from Katie Tiedrich's Awkward Zombie comic.
