I don’t know if it’s necessarily because he’s stuck in a rut plot-wise. I mean, I think he’s written himself out of some tough spots before. The part where Pres was in jail for being child molestor got ended quickly with a pardon from Bill Clinton. (At least I think it was; the particular plot wasn’t mentioned in later strips.) From the tone of Bernie’s most recent blog post (where he mentions that he got into a bad car accident), I think he either wants to try something new or quit altogether. And I agree: it would be a shame for Bernie to end the series since I think he had something unique going on… yet I would totally understand it if he decided he didn’t want to do the strip anymore.

I think Bernie from AlP got himself into a storyline he doesn’t like and doesn’t know how to get out of and it probably made him lose motivation for the whole project. I think he should just start fresh with a new direction, just tie up the lose ends with “Corinna took a shower, the B.O. is gone, and Abe still needs a date.” It’s a shame, because that was one of the regular comics I read.
